IMPORTANT: Re-entry from September 1st

 

Request of intention to re-enter Japan for foreign nationals with status of residence currently residing in Japan

 

The COVID-19 Measures Headquarters announced on August 28, 2020 that foreign nationals residing in Japan with the status of residence who have completed the prescribed procedures implemented as of September 1 and who were in possession of a re-entry permit when leaving Japan may re-enter Japan from country/region designated as subject to denial of landing.

Persons who wish to re-enter Japan through these measures must

  1. pledge to comply with additional epidemic prevention and control measures,
  2. send email with necessary re-entry information to the Immigration Service Agency of Japan and
  3. receive a Receipt for request of re-entry (hereinafter referred to as a “Receipt”) from them before leaving Japan

    (例)特設ホームページ掲載の追加的防疫措置の内容を確認しました。再入国に当たっては、同措置に従うことを誓約します。
    (英文例)I have confirmed the additional quarantine measures on the dedicated website and pledge to comply with these measures when re-entering Japan.
  2. Re-entry schedule/ 再入国予定
    (例)再入国の予定は以下のとおりです。
    (英文例)My schedule for re-entry to Japan is as follows.

【Re-entry from September 1st】

 

 

As a brief summary, foreign residents who fall in any of the following 1. to 3. with additional anti COVID-19 prevention and control measures are permitted to re-enter Japan from September 1st. 

 

 1. Foreign residents who have departed by August 31st.

     What they need:

  • a valid re-entry permit (including the Special re-entry permit) 
  • a Letter of Confirmation of Submitting Required Documentation for Reentry into Japan from the Japanese Embassy/Consulate General in the country/region of stay
  • a Certificate of Testing for COVID-19 from a medical facility in the country/region of stay proving a negative test result having undergone a test for COVID-19 (the novel coronavirus) within 72 hours prior to departing from the country/region of stay


2. Foreign residents who leave the country after September 1st.

    What they need:

  • a valid re-entry permit (including the Special re-entry permit) 
  • a receipt issued by the Immigration Bureau before departure: please refer to【Request of intention to re-enter Japan for foreign nationals with status of residence currently residing in Japan】above
  • a Certificate of Testing for COVID-19 from a medical facility in the country/region of stay proving a negative test result having undergone a test for COVID-19 (the novel coronavirus) within 72 hours prior to departing from the country/region of stay

 

3. Foreign nationals applying for landing in accordance with "Phased Measures for Resuming Cross-Border Travel": please refer to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website for details.

 

4. Foreign nationals with special humanitarian consideration as listed on "Specific cases in which entry and re-entry may be permitted under special circumstances".

What they need:

  • a valid re-entry permit (including the Special re-entry permit) 
  • a Letter of Confirmation of Submitting Required Documentation for Reentry into Japan from the Japanese Embassy/Consulate General in the country/region of stay or a receipt issued by the Immigration Bureau before departure: please refer to【Request of intention to re-enter Japan for foreign nationals with status of residence currently residing in Japan】above
  • a Certificate of Testing for COVID-19 from a medical facility in the country/region of stay proving a negative test result having undergone a test for COVID-19 (the novel coronavirus) within 72 hours prior to departing from the country/region of stay
