Removal of travel ban and other information from November 1st.

 

【Removal of travel ban for some countries】

 

On October 30, Japanese government announced the removal of the 8 countries and a region from the list of countries and regions which entry ban is applied and also decided to newly add 2 countries to the list. Please check the followings. 

Removed from the following list (effective from 00:00 am (JST) on November 1)

Australia, Brunei, China (including Hong Kong and Macau), New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Viet Nam

Newly added to the following list  (effective from 00:00 am (JST) on November 1)

Jordan, Myanmar

 

According to this announcement, please note that:

  1. "Certificate of COVID-19 negative test result" conducted within 72 hours of the departure time of the flight and the PCR test at the arrival airport are no longer required for newly entry from these 8 countries and a region.  
  2. the procedure to obtain the "Confirmation Letter for re-entry into Japan" or the "Receipt for request of re-entry" before leaving are no longer required for re-entry  from these 8 countries and a region 
  3. application for entering visa at the Japan Embassy or Consulate overseas will be required as long as the visa exempsion measures to these 8 countries and a region is maintained. 
  4. foreign nationals staying in these 2 countries added on the list within 14 days before landing to Japan are subject to denial of landing however, landing might be allowed under some special circumstances.   Please refer to 新型コロナウイルス感染症の拡大防止に係る上陸拒否について for detail.

【New entry and re-entry process from November 1st.  

 

Based on the announcements shown above, the new entry and re-entry process from November 1st. will be as follows:

 

New entry

  1. Please visit your nearest Japan Embassy or Consulate overseas and apply for an entry visa.
  2. Please refer to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website regarding the Application for Visa for foreign nationals eligible for Phased Measures toward Resuming Cross-Border Travel  details regarding .
  3. New entry to Japan using the scheme of Residence Track might differ from which country you will be entering from.  Please refer to  Business Track/ Residence Track/ Entry into Japan from all countries and regions from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.

 

Re-entry

  1. The procedure to obtain the "Confirmation Letter for re-entry into Japan" is no longer required for foreign resident who departed from Japan by August 31 and who re-enter after November 1st.  
  2. The procedure to obtain the "Receipt for request of re-entrybefore leaving  are no longer required for foreign resident who wish to depart from Japan with re-entry permit (including special re-entry) after November 1st.
  3. Foreign resident who is returning to Japan from countries and/ or regions listed as landing refusal countries and regions is required to obtain  the "Certificate of COVID-19 negative test result" conducted within 72 hours of the departure time of the flight.
    ⇒Please show this document at your arrival airport so please do not pack in your suitcase.

  

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) provide a list and a webpage of medical institutions where you can find and make reservation about COVID-19 test for travelers.

 

COVID-19 prevention measures

  1. All nationals arriving from all countries and regions
    ・have to wait for 14 days at a designated location.
    ・are asked to refrain from using public transportation.
  2. All nationals arriving from the countries and regions listed as "landing refusal" 
    ・are subject to conduct the PCR test in additions to the measures listed on 1. above.
